Melbourne is summed up perfectly by its most famous event: a horse race; the Melbourne Cup's hedonistic appreciation of the finer things in life is blended with its strong traditions and easy, classy charm.

With weather, culture and atmosphere more stylishly European than Australia's other centres, Melbourne has a reputation for quality and finish. Some of this is founded, the arts scene is impressive and Melbourne takes it's food, wine and shopping very seriously, but Melbourne is less stuffy tailored suits and more cool cats than the reputation suggests. The nightlife as well as the cultural life is thriving, the city's setting, though more placid than the rest of Australia, is grey green, leafy and don't forget hugs the coast and river and the calendar is well stocked with sporting events mixed in between arts festivals.

What Melbourne and Victoria is really like...

Melbourne shouldn't be know as a place of top notch sport, or wine regions an hour outside of the city but it should be known for it's multiculturism, quirkiness and hidden secrets. Melbourne is full of laneways, trams, culinary delights and something for everyone from prestigious lygon street for food, chapel street for shopping, st kilda for funkiness to name a few; there are theatrical shows, comedy, music, microbreweries, theme rides; there are museums, art galleries, parks and architechture; there is a zoo, aqarium and all in between from street festivals, to china town, to markets and everything inbetween

...so what are you waiting for?

And if your interested in taking a drive you have Gippsland full of rolling hills, cheeses, wine and markets. You have the Great Ocean road that runs into Warrnambool where you can watch wales and Torquay known for surfing. The Grampians which is part of the Great Dividing Range is full of caves, cliffs and walking trails. Central Victoria is old gold country where mine tours can be taken and old artechtural buildings can be seen everywhere. Between these places such as Woodend, Daylesford, Castlemaine and Maldon are for those wanting to do boutique shopping and enjoy spa packages. And lastly from all that I have experienced myself we have the only (and numerous) snow fields in Australia! And these should all be enough reasons to make you want to come and visit Victoria!
