Built in 1459 under the order of ruler Rao Jodha, Mehrangarh Fort is an intimidating structure. Perched on a hillside overlooking the city, the massive building’s national treasures have been added to by every ruler the country has had since its initial construction. In 1974, Maharaja Gaj Singh II’s Mehrangarh Museum Trust officially transformed the fort into a national museum. Today, exhibits of valuable artwork and historic artifacts fill the rooms, which are architectural marvels on their own.
