Germany used to be the most popular destination in Europe. A trip down the Rhine was a highlight of the Grand Tour. Having slumped as a result of two wars (and Germans too flock abroad - more travel abroad than any other nationalities on earth), it is slowly rising in popularity again. Beer, autobahns, cutting edge architecture and ruined castles are just some of the elements, old and new, that may tempt you back.

Bed and Breakfasts of Germany

If you want the best experience in Germany, go for a bed and breakfast in the region. Not only are these places a home away from home, but the people who work there are usually extremely nice. I have NEVER had a bad experience at a bed and breakfast, although I am not usually the one who makes the travel arrangements. The staff is often a family who are used to tourists and make all the greatest attempts to cater to your wants and needs.

The places themselves, as a whole, are usually large rooms and very comfortable. Based on my experience, it is best to stay at a bed and breakfast out of the main tourist cities and a little more off the beaten path. It is usually beneficial to your stay because these hotel rooms are usually more spacious and less expensive.

The breakfasts are typically out of this world. Many times your hostess will ask you what kind of special orders you want for breakfast, such as hot eggs or hot chocolate. They tend to always include the essentials of bread, spread, yogurt, fruit, coffee and juice but often there are other options given to you.

I have usually stayed at these bed and breakfasts during the winter and they offer a great place to be warm after a day of exploring in the cold weather.

Are there any particular B&Bs you can recommend in Bavaria?

A must see

Germany is my second favorite country in Europe, second only to Greece. They have some of the best food in the world, are known for their beer and are very friendly people who are willing to help travellers. . There is much to see and do and every corner of the country holds a different culture.
