Bora Bora

Surrounded by a lagoon and barrier reef, Bora Bora is a typical volcanic Pacific Ocean island paradise. Recognisable for its extinct volcano and the stilted luxury bungalows built out onto the lagoon, Bora Bora has seven high end resorts built on the smaller islands edging the lagoon. All offer diving snorkelling and other water activities, the most remarkable being the shark and ray feeding trips. Bora Bora was the American Army supply base during WW2, but saw no direct action, and there are still cannons and other war remains on the main island. At the end of the war many American army personnel refused to leave their island paradise and had to be forcibly removed after complaints from their families.
