Barbados as a holiday destination provides great beaches and fine food - at a price. Some of the best hotels and restaurants in the world are here, and in season half the CEOs of the FTSE 100 are out here (rock stars and models go to St Barts, while the Wall Street crowd prefer the British Virgin Islands and the Bahamas).

However, there are also some decent package tour resorts, so those on a budget can still get here. The countryside is pretty and green, and the island has the advantage, being the most easterly in the Caribbean, of cooling Trade Winds and great sandy beaches on the western shore - unlike the volcanic black sand of its neighbours.
