For great skiing and fantastic modern facilities, the Bulgarian resort of Bankso is worth considering for its good value. In the past few years there has been a multi-million Euro investment in the area and it shows through the site's luxury hotels, apartments, and other facilities.
The highest point for skiing is 2,600m and there is around 65km of marked pistes. There are 17 runs in all and it has been described as one of the best places to learn skiing. Despite its relative newcomer status, it attracts people from around the world due to the fantastic snow cover from December through to May and fantastic local amenities. The slopes are rigorously maintained, making the resort an aesthetic delight for skiers at all times.
The Bankso region has an abundance of interesting areas from the town itself to the nearby Pirin National Park. All in all there are around 120 cultural and historical monuments in the Bankso area. Most importantly, the apres-ski is abundant, with traditional taverns or “Mehana” on every corner. Prices are affordable and the people welcoming. A great place to visit, on and off piste.
