Queensland is Australia's tourism capital. Including the most tropical of Australia's paradises, Queensland has miles of beaches: at the southern end golden grained and at the northern end made up of bright white minuscule grains of coral. On one side of these sandy barriers is the dense green palace of the rainforest, the other, the darling of Australian tourism, the dazzlingly colourful reef. The interior dries up further inland, pocked by mining towns, mountain ranges and sugar cane fields. Queensland's centres have a laid back yet hedonistic vibe that must have something to do with the heat and humidity. Surfing, diving, sailing and adventure sports are just as popular as beach bumming. Queensland's theme parks, casinos and the bronzed glamour of the Gold Coast have given capital city, Brisbane, the nick name Bris-vegas.
