The beaches are sandy and the promenade has the feeling of the old and elegant Med, but Arrecife is a mish mash of sun bleached and peeling, aging quality. This small town has both very good and very poor restaurants and tacky tourist stands as well as elegant boutiques. A couple of castles a very pretty lagoon and an attractive town centre are the highlights of this small city which is unusual on Lanzarote as earning its living from something other than tourism.
